Getting Up Close with Legendary Baseball Scout Ralph Avila November 14, 2014
Conducting an on-camera interview with someone you’ve never met before so that it appears natural and organic is tricky. Add some bulky and imposing production equipment to the convo and now you’ve got your work cut out for you. That’s what we were up against in an interview former member of the Havana Sugar Kings and legendary baseball scout, Ralph Avila.
Enter the Folding Mark E. The Mark E allows the subject to see the interviewer while looking into the camera, an illusion that remedies the impersonal aspect of responding to a camera lens. With the Mark E helping to create a more relaxed environment, we had a fascinating discussion with Avila, who is responsible for discovering some of Major League Baseball’s most talented players from the Dominican Republic. His story was the focus of a recent ESPN special which we were tapped to help direct and shooot with our partner 66 Films.
Check out some behind-the-scenes action during our interview with Avila.[rw-video type=’v’ thumb=’http://i.vimeocdn.com/video/462049034_1280.jpg’ video=’http://player.vimeo.com/video/84987759′ title=’Ralph Avila’]
