Behind the Scenes at the Electric Car Speed Record Shoot
Our recent shoot with Genovation Cars proved to be one wild ride. From hanging out of helicopters to editing in aviation hangers – you would think we were on the set of an action film. The star? The Genovation Extreme Electric (GXE) – a modified all-electric Corvette with a serious need for speed. Our crew was on site at the Shuttle Landing Facility in Cape Canaveral to capture the vehicle’s record-breaking run.
To keep up with the GXE and get the best footage, the Digital Cut production team shot from numerous vantage points, including the balcony of the shuttle-landing tower, inside a helicopter, several points along the three-mile runway, and with various GoPros placed within the car itself.
The GXE didn’t waste any time and broke the Land Speed Record for a Street Legal Electric Vehicle on day one. Genovation CEO and newfound record holder, Andrew Saul, was ready to shout the news from the landing tower and so were we. To ensure a lightning fast turnaround on the video, the team shifted gears (pun intended) and employed our mobile editing capabilities. Once posted online, the record-breaking speed test video went viral gaining almost 300,000 views within the first week and was picked up by numerous media outlets around the world proving that working fast and staying flexible pays off!
