Funny Thing About Video… May 11, 2016

Need a laugh?

Of course you do. Everyone loves a good laugh, especially clients and customers. If you’re looking for a way to grab your audiences’ attention, humor might be just what you need to set your next video apart.

Whether you’re presenting consumer pain points in a humorous light (think Dollar Shave Club) or poking fun at your own brand (It’s Jake…from State Farm), a well-timed punch line can resonate with your audience, generating positive emotions and triggering memorability. Along with establishing trust and rapport, humor can also be a mechanism for making tough topics more palatable.

Who doesn’t love a bear doing laundry.

Samsung recently advertised their new Eco Bubble washing machine and rather than present the benefits of green technology in a way that makes the whole world want to eye roll, the marketing team decided to feature a bear using the machine to wash his pelt instead. The video went viral faster than the spin cycle and was well received by consumers.

Humor can be a vital asset for companies in highly saturated or competitive industries, however it’s important to joke responsibly. To appeal to your audiences’ funny bone without offending them take the time to research your demographic, avoid controversial topics, and above all be relatable.
